When Disaster Strikes, Walmart Helps!

Wal-Mart is definitely no stranger to dealing with natural disasters, but this latest storm hits close to home.

"These are our friends; these are our neighbors,” says Bryan Coon, Operations Manager for the Emergency Management Department.

But in order to help their neighbors, Emergency Management Department workers had a small problem to overcome: Getting to work.

"I’ve had some managers that have gone out there and picked up associates, brought them into work and at the end of their shift taken them back home again,” says Coon.

Since the storm first hit our area on Monday, Wal-Mart has donated flashlights and other resources to first responders, the red cross and emergency management agencies. But with other natural disasters ahead, it seems as if the work never stops.

"We never get to take a break here,” says Coon. “We're going to go straight from ice storms and winter storms, to volcanoes, pretty soon its tornado season, right after that its back to hurricane season."

And with so many high ranking officials within the company stuck at home, Coon says running the world's largest retailer still went smoothly, thanks to a few more conference calls than usual.
