CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The University of Charleston and Wal-Mart cut the ribbon Friday to open the first of its kind, on-campus pharmacy in the United States.
The pharmacy, which is open to the general public, will teach students real-life work experience while providing quality healthcare services to the local community.
“We are pleased to partner with Walmart and honored that this first campus-based pharmacy will be located on the University of Charleston campus and in West Virginia,” said UC President Dr. Edwin Welch.
“This is an exciting and significant day in the history of the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy,” said UC School of Pharmacy Interim Dean Dr. Michelle R. Easton. “We envision that this partnership will greatly enhance the learning opportunities of our students by increasing their exposure and involvement in all facets of community pharmacy practice as they progress through our curriculum."
Walmart Pharmacist Richard Carney will operate the pharmacy.
The pharmacy will be open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
